Code Compliance

Remember: The Code Compliance Department is here to help. Working together will prevent blight in our neighborhoods and throughout the Village, and further influence and enhance the quality of life in our Village.

Code Compliance has been tasked with enforcing the village’s rules and regulations and takes a proactive stance when residents, tenants or business owners are in violation, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life for all of Miami Shores as well as beautifying our streets and neighborhoods.

Also a resident or tenant can report a complaint by calling the Code Compliance Department at (305) 795-2207 or sending an e-mail. A staff member will take information regarding the location and nature of the violation. The inspector assigned to the area will conduct an inspection of the property. If it is determined that a violation exists, the inspector issues a notice

Find out how to correct the problem and do so promptly. You can ask for additional time provided you are making progress on the violations. Some problems are serious and correction must not be delayed.

If you are unwilling to take prompt action to correct the problems, there are several possible consequences. The Village can arrange for a lot to be mowed or for a vacant, open structure to be boarded. The cost is then billed to you. If legal action becomes necessary, you will be served a notice to appear before the Code Enforcement Board. You must explain your case, and ultimately correct the violations in order to avoid fines and liens.
