Mr. Wolk made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 7, 2013, meeting. Motion seconded by Ms. Wiborg and unanimously approved.

Mr. Estep gave a summary of the recreation programs at this time, noting that the basketball program is going well. It was noted that 50 attended the last Kids Day Off program. Mr. Estep related that he met with swim coach Noemi Zaharia about the swim team program. The program currently has 19 enrolled. Ms. Zaharia will start to actively recruit for the team and will start to have internal swim meets one on one, as well as with other swim teams. Mr. Estep also noted that pool maintenance is in full swing, and the tile work is almost finished in the women’s restroom.

It was noted that Country Day has been contacted about the possibility of having a joint 5k race in the Fall. It was related that a grant has been submitted to the Miami Shores Community Alliance for the 5k race.

Discussion turned to having a putting contest at Unity Day. The Committee was advised that a $275 sponsor will be needed for the event. The winner of the putting contest would win $5000. The National Hole-In-One is the company that the recreation department will use to offer the putting contest. It was suggested giving a gift certificate from the MS Country Club for a golf foursome to the person who is closest to the hole.

Mr. Estep noted that bicycle safety training will begin in Miami Shores. There will also be a family bike event on April 7 which will end at Memorial Park for the spring concert.

At this time Mr. Whittaker presented Mr. Marrocco with a plaque for 18 years of service to the community as a Committee member.

The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
