The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.

New members Kendra Borja and Christian Dunham were welcomed to the Committee.

Ms. Henry made a motion to nominate Mr. O’Hara as the Chair of the Committee. Motion seconded by Ms. Borja and unanimously approved.

Ms. Henry made a motion to nominate Ms. O’Donnell as the Vice Chair of the Committee.  Motion seconded by Ms. Blackman and unanimously approved.

Ms. O’Donnell made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 9, 2019 meeting. Motion seconded by Ms. Henry and unanimously approved.

Mr. O’Hara explained to the new members why the Recreation Center is on the monthly agenda and asked for a tour of the Community Center next month to see the needs of the Center.  Mr. O’Hara noted that a grass roots effort from the community will be needed for a new community center.  At this time the Committee has refocused efforts on the enhancement of the current facility until directed otherwise from the Council.

It was noted that the Council prefers the Committee members to attend Council meetings to discuss changes instead of individual Council members attending Committee meetings. Councilman Meltz has offered to sponsor Committee members to be added to the agenda.  Mr. O’Hara offered to invite Council members to individually attend the Committee meetings and give them personal tours of the facility.

Ms. Dorney related that there was a leak in the filtration system at the pool, which has been repaired.  The competition pool is scheduled to be remarcited at the end of the year.  The new splash pool is on track for a May opening.

Ms. Dorney said that the Village has taken over the Chamber’s Plaza 98 event, with Council approving $10,000 towards the event.  The first two events are Puppy Palooza in October and a movie night featuring Elf for November.  The Miami Shores Gobble Wobble 5k Walk/Run has been scheduled for November 24.

It was related that the concession at the Field House will either be run in-house or taken over by a new concessionaire.

Ms. Henry related the following ideas for adult classes:  adult sewing, cake/cookie decorating, holiday tree decorating, yoga, painting classes.  Ms. Henry suggested running one of these classes in conjunction with a parent’s night out.

Ms. Dorney will be meeting with an architect to discuss new bathrooms at the field house. Square footage will determine the upgrades needed.

The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
