The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Brockway Memorial Library was held at the library on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. Present were Library Director Elizabeth Esper, and board members Cheryl Gowing, Henry Harnage , Antonie Downs and Jennifer Quinton. Board member Donna Hurtak was absent. John Camp was also present as guest.

1.         Minutes

The minutes of the June 12, 2013 meeting were accepted as presented.

2.         Financial Report

Ms. Esper presented the financial report noting no unusual items. The financial

           report was approved.

3.        New Business

a. Guest John Camp re: Parking meter fund raiser

Mr. Camp has proposed a fundraiser for the library that would entail officially decommissioning the parker meters on the north and south side of the library and having them repainted, designating them as a source of donation to the library. The idea is that loyal patrons would happily put some coins in the meters when they visit the library and an estimated revenue would be estimated at $3500 a year. Mr Camp is willing to do the leg work to get approval from the Village as well as the police dept. Henry Harnage made a motion to formally endorse the endeavor and it was seconded by Cheryl Gowing. The motion was adopted. Cheryl will draft a letter of endorsement for John to use.

b. Request from Alice Burch

Ms. Burch and the Community Alliance have utilized old newspaper ads from our archives for the upcoming Community Alliance Gala. They have made 10 posters and would like the library to underwrite the cost of one poster.   The cost is $154. The library is requesting that the posters be donated back to the library after the function. Henry Harnage made a motion to have the funds for sponsorship be taken from the trust fund. Antonie Downs seconded the motion. The motion was adopted.

c. Comments by Henry Harnage

Mr Harnage wanted to state for the record that he was intensely disappointed with the boards’ decision in the spring to deny a patrons request to have her wedding at the library, and stated he would like to review the policies regarding library use.

4.       Old Business

a. Library Budget

The budget was approved at the first hearing and should be good for the second hearing.

b. Brockway Birthday Bash

Ms. Esper reported that the Brockway Birthday Bash has been postponed due to conflicting events and village commitments.

c. Library Project Update

Ms. Esper reported that she has received an estimate from Larry DeRose for estimates and initial renderings for the expansion of the children’s wing. The estimate was $3,900. Elizabeth will speak to Mr. DeRose to see if it is possible to decrease the estimate to under $3000. Ms. Esper will call Jerome Hurtak regarding the status of the written agreement between the board and the trustee with details of the bequest.

d. Fine Arts Commission Art Exhibit

The next art exhibit will be October 4th and the Fine Arts Commission has proposed January 31, 2014 as the next reception for artist Rene Barge.
