Library Board of Trustees Minutes, January 10, 2018

Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 9:00am

Brockway Memorial Library Conference Room

The meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Brockway Library was called to order at 9:05 am by President Donna Hurtak. Present: Michelle Brown, Library Director; Board members: President Donna Hurtak, Vice President Cheryl Gowing, Toni Downs, Kathy Redmond, Laura Farley and Frances Walsh, Adult Services Librarian.

PRESENTATIONS: Sue Cvejanovich, Assistant Director, Library Services, Miami-Dade Public         Library System. Ms. Cvejanovich distributed packets containing information regarding the numerous programs provided by MDPLS to each member. Questions were asked regarding reciprocal borrowing and a discussion ensued regarding pros and cons of entering into this program. A statement was made that no contract is required to join reciprocal borrowing program yet it appears that there is a signed agreement between library and MDPLS. Brockway would be able to apply for state funding if we were to enter into this program. Michelle will investigate further as to the amount to which we would be entitled to request from state. Sue was thanked for her informative presentation.

As a continuation to our research this year reviewing our options to participate in reciprocal borrowing with the county, Michelle has scheduled Jennifer Pratt and Melanie McCartney from SEFLIN to speak to us at our February board meeting on Wednesday, February 14th to discuss the opportunity of joining SEFLIN and their shared collection system called One Card – another option we may want to consider in an effort to broaden our offerings.
