Miami Shores Village invites you to apply to serve on the newly formed Sustainability & Resiliency Committee (SRC)

At the January 21, 2020 Council Meeting, the Village Council adopted an ordinance establishing a seven-member SRC which shall act as an advisory board to the Village Council on all matters related to resiliency and sustainability. There is no residency requirement; however, applicants should have demonstrated an interest in a field or activity related to global warming/climate change. Membership of the committee, as a whole, should reflect a broad range of applicable technical knowledge, education and experience.

The Code Enforcement Board is comprised of seven residents appointed by the Village Council and serve a three year term. The Board members serve as judges with respect to property owners who are in violation of the Village’s Code of Ordinances and who have been issued “Notices of Violation.”

The duties of the Board are two-fold: the first is to verify through hearing testimony that the violation exists and to offer a time gram to allow the homeowner to bring the property into compliance; and the second part is to apply a daily penalty if the property has not been brought into compliance. Once a penalty fine has been assessed and is accruing, only the Code Enforcement Board has the authority to negotiate the fine only after the violation has been cured.

Advises the Country Club General Manager on matters which effect the Country Club operations.

This Board is comprised of seven residents appointed by the Village Council for a two year term.

The School is governed by a thirteen member Board of Trustees made of members appointed by the various entities involved in the school’s conception. Seven directors are appointed by the Village Council, with two directors each from Barry University and the North Dade Medical Foundation. The remaining seats are filled by one parent each, respectively from the middle school and high school student population. The Board considers the education needs and the youth of the school and makes recommendations as to how those needs can be met.

Recommend and facilitate ways and means to pursue implementation of the activities and outcomes detailed in the Education Compact encouraging residents to choose Miami Shores Elementary School as a primary school choice.

This Board is comprised of seven residents appointed by the Village Council for a two year term with one member Ex Oficio appointed by Miami Shores Elementary School.

Plans and organizes fine arts and cultural events throughout the year.

The Commission has seven residents appointed by the Village Council to a two year term.

Members of the General Employee Pension Board are the Mayor, the Village Manager with three Village Council appointed residents and two employees elected for a two year term.

The Board is responsible for assisting in the administration of the pension plan, adopting investment policies approving benefits and reviewing the Plan assets.

Recommends and nominates sites or properties for historic designation, advises property owners on historic preservation matters and acts upon applications to renovate/rehabilitate structures listed on the historic register.

The Board consists of five members appointed by the Village Council to a two year term.

There are currently over forty Miami Shores Village homes designated by the Village Council. In order to qualify for designation, the Board will consider whether the home or site is of historical significance by reviewing its integrity of location, design, setting, workmanship and association with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history; that are associated with persons significant in history; that embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period or method of construction; or that represent the work of a master or possesses high artistic value.

Meets regularly with the Library Director and provides support for the Village's library system by setting the policies and regulations for the operation.

The Library Board of Trustees is made up of five residents appointed by the Village Council for a five year term.

The Board is made up of five residents who are appointed by the Village Council for two year terms.

Hears complaints lodged by Village employees who feel they have been unfairly discharged or suspended for more than three days, or have received a reduced rank or pay.

Reviews and makes recommendations on development master plans, site plans and planned unit developments, including but not limited to building additions and renovations. Reviews the zoning ordinances and makes recommendations on revising the zoning appendix and ordinances including requests to convert a residential garage to living space. Businesses are reviewed for land use changes and sign applications are considered.

The Board is comprised of five residents appointed by the Village Council and serve for a term of two years.

The Police Retirement Pension Board is comprised of two Village Council members, two appointed residents and two Police Department members.

Serves in an advisory capacity making recommendations relative to Recreation Department programming and activities.

The Board is comprised of nine residents appointed by Village Council for a two year term.

 

During the January 21, 2020 Council Meeting, the Village Council established its latest board: a seven-member Sustainability and Resiliency Committee (SRC) which shall act as an advisory committee to the Village Council on all matters related to resiliency and sustainability.

 

The SRC will host their first committee meeting and establish a future meeting schedule as well as meeting location once the Village Council appoints the board members at the April 7, 2020 Village Council Meeting.
