When are the Village Council meetings?

The Village Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Village Hall. The meetings begin at 6:30pm and are open to the public.

Can anyone speak at a Council meeting?

At the beginning of each Council meeting, there is a "public comment" item. During this time, residents have up to three (3) minutes to address the Council. However, this allotted time is not meant to be a "question and answer" period between the Council and the resident.

When and where are Council Agendas posted?

Council Agendas are posted on the front porch of Village Hall and can now be accessed via the website agenda page. The Agendas are posted on Wednesday afternoons prior to the Tuesday Council Meetings.

Is a Local Business Tax Receipt required for a home office?

The Village does allow certain types of businesses to be conducted from the home, as long as there are no employees working on the premises and the office space does not comprise more than 20% of the floor plan. A Local Business Tax Receipt is required for home businesses. Please call the Code Compliance Department for further clarification.

How long is a Local Business Tax Receipt good for?

The Local Business Tax Receipt is levied on a fiscal year basis, effective October 1 through September 30 of each year. Renewal notices are mailed in August and due and payable by September 30. Taxes differ depending upon the type of business being operated.

When are the Village elections held and how do you qualify as a candidate?

Village Council elections are held on the second Tuesday of April in each odd numbered year. The next Council election will be in the year 2019. To qualify as a candidate, you must be a Village resident, having resided in the Village for a minimum of six (6) months and obtain at least fifty (50) signatures of qualified Miami Shores Village voters on a petition. For further qualifying information, please contact the Clerk's Office directly.
