for Kids!

First 50 to register will get a free summer reading packet!


Library membership is not required for the following programs. All are welcome! Space is limited.



         Kids, ages 4 and older, are invited to participate in this annual program, which is designed to encourage children to have fun at the Library while maintaining and developing their reading skills over the summer months. From storytellers to bumble bees, this year’s presentations will encourage our children to see the beauty in themselves and in the world around them and show them the ways they can “Build a Better World”!

Friday, June 16: 1pm -2pm.Kick off the summer with storyteller, Mij Byram! Hear stories such as The Knee High Man, The Paper Bag Princess and Winnie the Lovesick Dragon and learn the importance of character.



Friday, June 23: 1pm-2pm:Visit from the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station! Hear about their work with shorebirds and other native South Florida birds. Learn about the most common injuries and threats they face from things like pollution and fishing and how we can make a difference. Discover more about the birds you can find in your own back yard! LIVE bird show!


Friday, June 30: 1pm-2pm: Bees! Gloria from G’s Dream Farm in Homestead will teach us all about these special insects and why they are so important to a better world! See a real bee colony – bees permitting! Taste some honey! Honey will be available for purchase.


Friday, July 7: 1pm-2pm: Let’s really BUILD! With LEGOS! Come play, build and learn with us! Bring a friend! Blocks will be provided.


Friday, July 14: 1pm-2pm: Be a superhero - Recycle!Jim and Wyatt from Miami Shores Public Works will teach us all about it in a fun and interactive lesson! Free giveaways! Tour the Recycle Truck!


Friday, July 21: 1pm – 2pm: Yoga Day!Local Yoga instructor Ms. Mariana Scotti will introduce us to yoga and lead us in a series of yoga poses. Taking care of ourselves helps us be better to the world around us!


Friday, July 28: 1pm – 2pm: LIVE SHOW SPECIAL EVENT!Fantasy Theater Factory Presents: Cinderella – A Fractured Fairy Tale – Say no to Bullies! Get ready for the wackiest version of Cinderella yet! Take the classic story of Cinderella, mix in elements of comedy, slapstick, songs, acrobatics & magic, and you've got a new version of an old story that will leave kids (and adults) begging for more!


Friday, August 4: 1pm-2pm: Jump your way into friendship and fun! See this award-winning team in action.Learn about fitness and teamwork – two things that are so important in making us better people and better friends!

Read with Gracie the Golden Doodle Therapy Dog! Every Monday from 3:30 – 5:10 PM; please sign up for a 20 minute segment to read to Gracie.  Please call for dates.


Let's Play and Read for Preschoolers Tuesdays, 11 – 11:45 AM. Preschoolers, parents and caregivers are invited to explore and read books and play with the Library's educational toys and puppets.  No registration required, just come in and have a lovely library experience with your little one!  This program not held during the summer.



Puppet Theater  Held the first Wednesday of every month at 4PM.  Next show: TBA


After School Stories for Kids For ages 6 and older; Meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 3:30PM. Children will listen to great stories and develop an appreciation of books and reading. Next date TBA


Girls World!  All girls ages 7-12 are invited. Next date TBA


Chess On This program not held during the summer. Checkers and Scrabble too! Play or Teach!


 Mad Science logoBrockway Library is proud to offer this renowned program which has been experienced by more than 6.5 million children in 25 countries across 5 continents! The Mad Science team will transform laboratory science into fun, interactive learning experiences for kids in grades K– 5.


Classes will be held the second Tuesday of every month from 3:30pm – 4:30pm. Class size is limited to 15.  Registration required.  All participants must have a Brockway library card. FREE!  Next program: June 13th.

All kids Kindergarten through Grade 3: Do you love to read? Do you love prizes and surprises? If so, be a Reading Super Star! Join Brockway Library’s Super Star Reader 100 Club!

Brockway Library now participates in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program for newborns to kids entering Kindergarten.

Any child from birth until he or she enters kindergarten is invited to participate in 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! Your first 100 books will count toward this! Prizes will be awarded after each 100 books read! It can take a few months or a few years; the program is self-paced and will depend on how often you read together. Keep track of all the titles you have read; the Library has a suggested list of books your child should hear before kindergarten.
