Join Brockway Library and the Miami Shores People of Color Thursday evening, February 9th from 6-7:30pm as we kick off the month’s events with an Opening Reception featuring Beat Poet and Grammy-nominated spoken word artist, Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughns, and sax artist, Leo Casino, a Grammy-nominated composer.  More events to be announced!  RSVPs appreciated: Please call 305-758-8107 to register. Robert Dawson – “Triumph and Tragedy” – 9:30-11:00 am – BROCKWAY LIBRARY, MIAMI SHORES (10021 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami Shores, Florida 33138) Meeting dates: (5 sessions) Monday, January 9, 23, 30 and February 6 and 13.  – Tuition is $90.00 for members, $115.00 for non-members.

This course is a series of lectures, live and in costume, presented as different historic individuals.  Presenter Robert Dawson is an actor/historian with a repertoire of over 70 characters.  This is a different, engaging, entertaining, and enlightening approach to teaching and learning history.

“The Bill of Rights” Part 2:  Amendments 2-9 to the Constitution cover many of the basic rights enjoyed by free people against an oppressive government, including a fair trial, protection against unreasonable invasion of one’s personal property, against cruel and unusual punishment, and perhaps even the right of every citizen to own a gun.  We will analyze the text of the Constitution and examine how the Supreme Court has applied these ideas over time.  The class is interactive.
