Ways of Giving to Brockway Library

Donating to Brockway Memorial Library.

Media Center Entrance

Our Library flourishes because of an inspiring history of support by Miami Shores residents. Brockway Memorial Library owes its very existence to the generosity of two early villagers, Roy H. Hawkins, then General Manager of Bessemer Properties, and George A. Brockway —who donated the land on which the library stands and the funds to build the library, respectively. The initial collection consisted of 4,182 volumes, books donated by residents and civic organizations.

As the collection and programs grew, library expansions were undertaken in 1961, in 1984, and most recently in 2002, when a 2,500-square-foot Multi-Media Room was built entirely with grants and money donated by the generous members of the community. Today, over 68,000 books and audio-visual materials, as well as computers, are housed in a pleasant, safe, accessible and well-maintained building. Ongoing activities include a variety of children’s and adults' programs, seasonal celebrations, art exhibits, book clubs, workshops, and special guest presentations.

Brockway Memorial Library welcomes gifts of cash or property, memorials, tributes, and bequests. All donations to Brockway Library are tax deductible.

Memorial Donations: Have a book plate placed in a book to provide a lasting memorial for a friend, relative, or loved one. Library staff will be glad to select titles from a subject area of importance to the honoree. The library reserves the right to approve any book suggestions or donations of books.

Tribute Donations: A donation can be made to acknowledge a birthday, wedding, anniversary, or other special occasion. Donors may suggest categories of interest and library staff will select appropriate titles from that subject area.

Bequests: Your will or trust can designate that a specific amount be transferred as a gift to Brockway Library. By providing a gift to the Library in your will, you help ensure that the tradition of library service is safeguarded for the future and passed on to the next generation. The bequest may be used by the Library’s Board of Trustees for purposes consistent with the goals and objectives of the library.

Donors Board: The Library Donors Board, located in the front lobby, recognizes individuals who have donated significant monetary gifts to the library. This includes name plates in 3 categories:   Bronze: $500 to 999 - Silver: $1,000 to 1,499—Gold: $1,500 & up. With the Library Board’s approval, major donors may request recognition by naming a collection or an area.
