Children’s Wing Expansion Project
When will the Library break ground on the new Children’s Wing?
The Library cannot begin active construction until the completion of the Village Sewer Project, since the Library’s septic tank and drain field lay within the proposed construction site. In the meantime, we are working steadily to finalize our plans, gain up-to-date cost estimates and begin the formal process of awarding a design/build contract through the Village so that we are ready to break ground in the fall. This is our goal!
How much money has the Library raised for this project? How much will this really cost?
To date we have raised over $275,000 for our Building Fund! In May, a new architectural study was completed to get a current cost estimate. Prices have increased since we first had an estimate provided in 2013 and the Library will need more money than anticipated. On June 7, 2016 the Village Council awarded $350,000 of additional funding to go toward the expansion.
How long will the construction take to complete the building project?
We expect construction to be completed in less than a year from the time of groundbreaking, but we will provide a more detailed construction schedule from the design/build contractor as soon as it is available. The Library and Village are committed to moving as expeditiously as possible through the contract and construction phases of this project.
How will this project affect Library services?
The Library intends to continue to function throughout the construction of the new wing. There are no plans to alter children’s programming, although some events may be moved to a different location in the library or off-site, if necessary.
