The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

Ms. Cawn made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 3, 2012, meeting. Motion seconded by Ms. Alou and unanimously approved.

Mr. Estep gave a summary of the recreation programs at this time, noting there are 237 enrolled in the basketball program; 62 in 5/6, 52 in 7/8, 57 in 9-11 yr., 31 in 12-15 yr. and 35 in the girls program. It was noted that Winter Break camp averaged 53 campers per day. It was related that Fine Arts sponsored a Wizard of Oz sing-a-long that had about 125 in attendance and Winterfest had about 1,000 in attendance.

Discussion turned to the 5K run. The Committee was advised that County Day is planning a 5k race in 2013. A suggestion was made for the Rec. Dept. to team up with Country Day for their 5k race. It was noted that Country Day has a track to start and end their race, plus they have their route established from their cancer walk in October. Ms. Dorney will contact County Day to explore the possibility of teaming up with them. Any profit made with a joint venture with Country Day would probably be earmarked for cancer. Mr. Meltz would still like the 5k to be a timed race. It was suggested contacting the group that organizes the Color Run to see what would be involved in teaming up with them.

Mr. Estep noted that Shipwreck Cove will be open in early March and that the pool has already been pressure washed. Half of the lounge chairs and tables will be replaced this year at a cost of about $12,000, with the second half to be replaced in 2014.

It was noted that Unity Day is scheduled for March 2. A suggestion was made to hold a putting contest this year for adults. It was noted that the cost of wristbands will increase from $10 to $12 this year. Vendors at Unity Day will also be able to fundraise this year.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
