The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m.

Mr. Wolk made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 5, 2012, meeting. Motion seconded by Ms. Alou and unanimously approved.

Mr. Estep gave a summary of the recreation programs at this time, noting there are 220 enrolled in the basketball program.

Discussion turned to the proposed 5K run. Mr. Estep suggested that the Committee postpone the run until October or November of 2013. The police department did not realize that the run was to be a timed race so it will be more staff intensive; the set up for the run would be at 4:30 am with barricades and entertainment to be set up. Mr. Estep also said that we are behind on advertising for the run with the majority of February races already being publicized. In order to put on a successful event, more time is needed for preparation. Also, residents who are along the running route will need to be notified. Mr. Estep suggested that the Committee request a grant from the Mayor’s Community Alliance for the 5K run. Mr. Estep can also request that funds be put into next year’s budget for the run. Mr. Meltz would like to schedule a date for the run. Mr. Meltz also feels that the Shores could have a run without having to offer a gimmick to attract runners. It was suggested that different running routes be suggested at the January meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
