Meeting of the Board of Trustees

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Brockway Library was called to order at 9:11am. Present: Library Director, Michelle Brown and Board members: Chair, Antonie Downs, Henry Harnage, Jennifer Quinton, Donna Hurtak and Cheryl Gowing.

 

Public Comment: None

 

  1. Minutes: A motion was made by Cheryl Gowing to approve the minutes of the January meeting as presented. Seconded by Henry Harnage.

  2. Financial Report: Presented and a motion to approve it was made by Donna Hurtak and seconded by Jennifer Quinton.

  3. Circulation Report: Presented and a motion to accept was made by Donna Hurtak and seconded by Toni Downs.

    Old Business:

  1. Library Director, Michelle Brown, presented Library goals for our review. Cheryl Gowing made a motion to approve them as amended; Henry Harnage seconded.  

    Other Items:

  1. Children’s Wing Expansion: Architect, Jorge Gutierrez has been selected to do a study on the addition, the cost was $6200, less than expected, and will be funded by the Library’s Trust. The Library Director is also looking into the opportunity to apply for a Public Library Construction Grant.

  2. Toni Downs made a motion to request Cheryl Gowing to write a letter to the Bolton family providing them an update on the building project and provide subsequent monthly updates as well. Donna Hurtak seconded the motion. All in favor.

  3. The Board approved funding $250 for the Shakespeare Reenactment with actor Robert Dawson. Funds to come from the Library’s Trust Fund.

  4. The children’s room will have a receptacle to collect books for children with Read to Lean Program.

  5. Michelle announced we received a $5000 grant from Unite Miami Shores and a $1500 grant from the Community Alliance.

The meeting adjourned at 10:00. The next scheduled meeting is for April 13, 2016 at 9am.
