The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m.

Ms. Moore gave the Commission a brief bio of herself and how she became an artist. Ms. Moore brought several pieces of her artwork for possible exhibit at the library. Her pieces include contemporary (modern) pieces and watercolors on rice paper. Ms. Moore left the meeting after presenting her artwork.

Mr. Stock made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 16, 2013, meeting.  Motion seconded by Ms. Banich and unanimously approved.

Discussion turned to art in public places. Sculptor Robert Huff was suggested for the lobby in Village Hall but was vetoed since there is not enough space for his work. It was suggested that the theater lobby would be an ideal location for Mr. Huff’s art. It was noted that Mr. Traupman and Ms. Salt have not as yet visited galleries. A call to artists has been put out with only a few responses at this time. One of the members will ask Ernesto Kunde if he would be interested in exhibiting in Village Hall and if so to present submissions. Tom Weinkle and Noreen Morelli will also be contacted about exhibiting. Ms. Morelli is a Shores resident whose artwork is too large to be exhibited at the library.

Discussion turned to Green Day. It was noted that Memphis Kelly and Bermuda High would like to perform again this year at no charge. It was related that there could be pop up street performers at street corners for the event. Mr. Traupman suggested having a DJ as an alternative to pop up performers.

Discussion turned to Dance Now. The Commission is exploring alternate dates with the company as well as alternate venues. It has become difficult to find a compatible date with the theatre so the Community Center and Barry are both alternate locations.

It was noted that there is no design or cost estimate at this time for the 9/11 plaque.

Discussion turned to the artist exhibition at the library. Mr. Stock made a motion to move the exhibition date for Ernesto Kunde to October 4th. Motion seconded by Ms. Salt and unanimously approved. Ms. Salt made a motion to approve $219 to place an ad in the Egret to promote the October event. Motion seconded by Ms. Banich and unanimously approved. Ms. Rojas made a motion to approve $100 for

300 artist invitations for the October 4th exhibit. Motion seconded by Mr. Stock and unanimously approved. Ms. Salt has volunteered to host the October 4th artist exhibit at the library. It was noted that a $300 grant has been received from the Miami Shores Community Alliance for Commission receptions. Ms. Taddeo made a motion for Ms. Salt to spend up to $100 for the artist reception. Motion seconded by Ms. Rojas and unanimously approved.

Discussion turned to new business. At this time the Commission already has commitments for future artists for library exhibits but would consider Ms. Moore’s artwork in the future as she is well known in the Shores. It was suggested that the Commission consider having an exhibit featuring four amateur artists in October 2014. This event could build the library’s audience with each selected artist bringing their own following and collaborate with the Art League. Ms. Banich volunteered to lead this event.

The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
