The Public Works Department provides a variety of maintenance services that make Miami Shores the "Village Beautiful."  In addition to maintaining the   Village's parks, rights-of-way and other public spaces, the Public Works Department is responsible for garbage collection and recycling.

The Public Works Department provides garbage pick-up twice a  week,  recycling collection once a week and bulk trash collection twice a month.  Please call 305-795-2210 or email
Pbwks@aol.com  for questions concerning Public Works.

Garbage Collection: Please set garbage in sturdy and tightly covered containers in your alleyway (or at the curb if you have no alley) by 7:00 a.m. on collection days.  Containers should not exceed 50 pounds when full.

Recycling Collection: Recyclables must be placed in the recycling bin provided by the Village curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled recycling collection day.

Bulk Trash Collection: Up to 3 cubic yards of bulk trash is collected approximately twice a month, including household and yard debris.  During hurricane season, this process slows considerably due to extensive residential trimming--please bear with us!  Please place household debris and yard debris in two separate piles in your alley (or curbside if you have no alley) by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.  Limbs must be cut to a maximum of 5 feet in length.

Holiday Schedule: Garbage and recycling collection is made on all scheduled days, including holidays except Christmas Day, December 25th.  This year’s Christmas collection will occur on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

Garbage Fees: Garbage fees are due on a quarterly basis (in January, April, July and October).  The current fee per household is $420.00 per year, or $105.00 per quarter.  Fees may now be paid by credit card at the Village Hall

Old Phone Book Collections: The annual changout of Miami-Dade phone books is approaching.  The telephone book people do not have an exact schedule for delivery in Miami Shores--other than some time in September.  Based on this, following delivery, Public Works will collect the OLD phone books every Wednesday in October.  Please put your old phone books out by the curb in a prominent location (not obscurred by cars, trees, etc.) by 077 each WEDNESDAY.  If you prefer, you can use your old phone books to get a pass to the Metro Zoo--call Public Works for details (305) 795-2210.

New Drainage Projects:  The Village will be starting two new drainage projects soon.  The first location is just off NE 2nd Avenue at the Police Station.  The second project will be in the vicinity of the Community Center at Park Drive and NE 96 Street.  These projects may entail some temporary traffic disruption, but please bear with us.

Bayfront Park Seawall Railing Replacement:  Almost five years ago, the Village replaced the seawall railing.at Bayfront Park.  We have not been satisfied with its appearance and contacted the vendor who installed it.  The vendor’s name is SAFETRON, Inc.  We tell you this because he has agreed to completely replace the railing at no expense to the Village.  In this day and age, it is rare to encounter responsible vendors willing to honor their products five years after the paperwork was filed.  Hats off to this company!
