ACTION ITEM
1) Discussion regarding plans for a historic
home tour.
Mr.
Tenney advised the Members of the Board of his discussions with Debbie
Tackett, Assistant Director of the Dade Heritage Trust. Ms. Tackett reported that the Trust’s
deadline for submitting information to be included in the printed brochure
is today, February 6th.
Due to this deadline, an emergency meeting was convened to decided
whether or not the Board would conduct a walking tour this year and if so,
the date for such a tour. Mr. Tenney
stated that Ms. Tackett stated that either Saturday April 5th or
Saturday April 12th would be available for the Shores’ tour.
Individual
Board Members expressed their opinions on whether or not they should
conduct a tour this year. Mr. Tenney
advised the group that former members of the Board had indicated that they
would assist with the tour should the Board choose to conduct the
tour. Mr. Zelkowitz suggested that
the later date (April 12th) be considered as it would give
everyone an extra week for planning and preparation. Additional considerations which were
discussed were the number of houses necessary for the tour, manpower needs,
and contingent plans should the tour need to be cancelled for any reason.
Following
these discussions, Ms. Collins moved to forego conducting a house tour this
year. Ms. Temkin seconded the
motion. The vote, when called, was 2
to 2
with Mr. Tenney and Mr. Zelkowitz voting against the motion.
Additional
discussions took place with assurances made that a cancellation plan would
be in place. Mr. Zelkowitz then
moved to have the walking tour take place on Saturday,
April 12, 2003, with marketing information to include the caveat of requiring
reservations through William Tenney and Mr. Tenney’s telephone number be
listed. Mr. Tenney seconded the
motion and the vote was 3 to 1 with Ms. Collins dissenting.
Board
Members discussed and by consensus, decided that the tour would be
conducted from 10:30 AM through 1:00
PM, beginning at the Shores Performing Arts
Theater and to conclude at the Brockway Memorial Library’s Archives
Room. Additional details of the
tour will be discussed at the regular meeting scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2003.
ADJOURNMENT
The
Emergency Meeting of the Historic Preservation Board was adjoured at 2:37 PM.
