TRASH PICKUP

The Public Works Department picks up garbage, recycling and trash. Trash consists of yard waste, furniture, junk, old swing sets etc. This material is picked up on an area basis. We start behind the K-Mart area and work our way east of the Boulevard. We go from North to South then cross over the Boulevard to the area between the Boulevard and the rail road tracks. We then move west between the tracks and 6th Avenue, working the north area and south area concurrently. We then transition to the area between 6th Avenue and NE 2nd Avenue again working the North and south areas at the same time. Our next area is the section west of NE 2nd Avenue to the western edge of the Village working the south end first and finishing off the Village in the Barry University area and all areas west of Barry. We then start the route over again in the K-Mart area.

The route usually takes two weeks depending on the season which determines how much material residents place out for pick up. The summer months take a little longer and the winter is quicker. There is no need to call us for normal items. we come whether you call or not. If you have a large item for disposal, call us for special instructions.

We pick up almost anything with few exceptions. We do not pick up building material which consists of blocks or bricks, concrete, tile, drywall, boards with nails or roofing material for example.  We do not pick up hazardous waste which consists of car batteries, wet paint, pesticides, herbicides or any other chemicals. We do no pick up car parts.

Long items (2X4's), branches, pvc pipe) must be cut to no longer than 6 foot lengths and leaves and small items must be bagged.

We do pick up white goods (washers, dryers and refrigerators) furniture, TVs, old cabinets and carpet.

Each day the Sanitation Division will designate an area for Trash Pick-up. The Sanitation Division will work to complete pick-up in that area on the designated day however due to weather, mechanical or other issues the Sanitation Division may not complete pick-up or may change the pick-up area for that day.
