MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE

REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

 

 

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council took place on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in the Council Chambers of Village Hall.  The Meeting was called to order at 7:31 PM with the following members in attendance:

 

PRESENT:                   Mayor McCoy

                                    Herta Holly

                                    Al Davis

                                    Ed Quinton

 

ALSO PRESENT:        Tom Benton, Village Manager

                                    Barbara Estep, Village Clerk

                                    Richard Sarafan, Village Attorney

 

ABSENT:                     Greg Ullman

 

 

PRESENTATION

 

Mr. Al Berg, Planning & Zoning/Code Enforcement Director presented the “House of the Month” award to  Hubert and Marvilla Morgan in honor of their home being named “House of the Month” for the month of July, 2003.

 

CONSIDERATIONS

 

1)                  VILLAGE CLERK                                                                   Barbara A. Estep

 

A)    APPROVAL OF THE  JUNE 17, 2003 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES.

 

Mr. Davis moved approval of the June 17, 2003 Regular Council Meeting Minutes.  Mr. Quinton seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor.

 

2)         FINANCE DEPARTMENT                                                      Mark A. Malatak

 

A)                PRESENTATION OF THE COMPREHENSIVE ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT FOR FISCAL YEAR ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 2002.

 

Mr. Jerry Chiocca from the auditing firm of Rachlin, Cohen & Holtz, offered highlights of the FY2001-2002 Comprehensive Annual Finance Report (CAFRA).  Mr. Chiocca reported that the Village was fiscally sound but as was the case with all municipalities and private companies as well, interest earnings and pension investments had suffered a downturn.  Mr. Chiocca stated that there were no reportable deficiencies and commended the Village Administration on its fiscal practices and policies.  Mr. Davis moved to accept the CAFRA report as presented by the Village’s auditors.  Ms. Holly seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor.

           

3)         ANNOUCEMENTS

 

The Village Clerk made the announcements.

 

4)         PUBLIC COMMENTS

 

No one present wished to address the Council.

 

5)        COUNCIL COMMENTS

 

Ed Quinton                    Mr. Quinton spoke about his recent walk on the Freedom Trail in Boston and reminded everyone to have fun on the 4th of July.

 

Al Davis                       Mr. Davis told everyone to have a “bang” on the 4th.

 

Herta Holly                   Ms. Holly asked everyone to have a safe holiday weekend.

 

Mayor McCoy              Mayor McCoy also spoke of the holiday weekend and urged everyone to come out and see the fireworks display.

 

6)        ADJOURNMENT

 

The July 1, 2003 Council Meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM.
