A) DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING A REQUEST
FROM MR. & MRS. ORRIN MacDONELL TO
DE-DESIGNATE THEIR HISTORICALLY DESIGNATED HOME LOCATED AT 9760 N.E. 5TH
AVENUE ROAD.
Mr. and Mrs. MacDonell were present and spoke on their own
behalf. They stated that due to the
historic designation of their home they cannot obtain competitively priced
homeowner’s insurance. Mr. and Mrs. MacDonell provided information relating to their
dilemma and indicated that it is a financial hardship for them to have
their home designated. Council
Members empathized with the MacDonell’s, stating
the probability that no one is happy with the cost of their property
insurance. Council Members discussed
their concerns regarding the request and the possible consequences and
future abuses that may occur should the request to de-designate the home be
approved. Subsequent to these
discussions, Mr. Davis moved to deny the request to de-designate the
home. The motion failed for lack of
a second. Mr. Davis then moved to
approve the MacDonell’s request. This motion also failed for lack of a
